Colombia and Argentina face off in the Copa America semi-finals on Wednesday, Argentina vs Colombia in Nepali time
With both teams hoping to advance to the final on Sunday
Argentina qualified for the last four by defeating Ecuador 3-0 in the quarter-finals, while their opponents narrowly defeated Uruguay in a penalty shootout.
Despite being widely favored entering the tournament, Colombia had a disappointing group campaign, but they were always in with a chance to qualify thanks to their opening 1-0 triumph over Ecuador, in which Edwin Cardona scored the game’s only goal on the stroke of halftime.
After a dismal goalless draw with Venezuela, they went on to lose 2-1 to Peru and Brazil, dropping to third place at the end of the group stage and facing a difficult quarter-final match against Uruguay as a result.
Reinaldo Rueda’s team, on the other hand, stepped up in that match, keeping a powerful opponent to a goalless draw, forcing the tie to a penalty shootout.
Colombia’s first two penalties were converted by Duvan Zapata and Davinson Sanchez, respectively, but David Ospina stopped Jose Gimenez’s shot to give La Tricolor the lead.
Yerry Mina and Miguel Borja then converted their penalties, with Ospina making his second save to deny Matias Vina, ensuring Rueda’s team won the shootout and advanced to the final four.
When they face a tough Argentina side on Wednesday, they’ll be looking for another massive win.
