The Bhaktapur Municipality is going to mobilize the community to end child marriage. 

Participants at an interaction on community mobilization for ending child marriage organized by the municipality today said that the community should be mobilized as child marriage has not decreased yet.

Speaking on the occasion, Nepal Mazdoor Kisan Party Bhaktapur Municipal Chairman Narayan Bahadur Duwal said that the entire community should be mobilized to stop child marriage. 

Advocate Anita Jadhari said that marriage was allowed after 18 years before 2018, one should now get married only after 20 years after 2018. 

She said that if a child is born before reaching 20 years of age, there will be problems such as not getting citizenship and being deprived of social and legal rights. 

She said that both parties would get legal punishment for child marriage, adding that due to the epidemic of Covid-19, various kinds of unusual and impractical pornographic activities are increasing through various social media due to new technology online.

She said that physical and mental abuse has increased through social media, victims of sexual abuse, and sexual abuse by family and close relatives. 

The program’s speakers stressed the need for the ward office to mobilize the community to stop child marriage.
