Bir Hospital, the country’s oldest government hospital, will be run as a Covid-19 unified central hospital.

The government’s decision is in line with President Bidya Devi Bhandari’s Covid-19 crisis management ordinance-2021, which was issued on Thursday.

At the central hospital, at least an 11th-grade government officer or a senior doctor will be employed as chief administrative officer. A Covid-19 screening clinic, a fever clinic, and a counseling center will be run out of the central hospital.

It also provides oxygen isolation, hard dependency, and intensive care units, as well as a telemedicine call center, home isolation follow-ups, ambulance, and emergency services. It will work in tandem with the admission of Covid-19-infected people to hospitals with available beds.

It can also recommend that any health facility be operated as a Covid-19 health facility.

A 10-member steering committee, chaired by the Prime Minister, will be formed to ensure effective infection prevention and control, as well as treatment of infected people.
