Burnley vs Leicester match postponed by the Premier League

Burnley vs Leicester: The Premier League match between Burnley and Leicester City on Saturday has been rescheduled.

Due to a combination of COVID-19 cases and injuries, Burnley was unable to name the required number of players for the match.

The match is the Premier League’s 19th postponement of the season, with 18 of those postponements involving positive COVID-19 cases.

The Premier League will reschedule the game in due course.

“The Board was able to make its decision in advance of the fixture to give clarity to the affected clubs and their fans,” the Premier League said in a statement.

“We apologize for the inconvenience and disruption caused to fans who had planned to attend the game, and we understand that postponements will disappoint fans.”

Burnley added, “Due to a number of injuries and COVID-19 cases within the first-team squad, the club submitted a postponement application, which was approved by the Premier League Board.”

It is the fourth postponement of a Burnley match this season due to COVID-19, but it is the first time the request has come from Sean Dyche’s side.

His team has played the fewest Premier League games this season (17), the fewest of any team in the top flight, and now has four matches to reschedule.
