Canada has won gold in women’s soccer at the Tokyo Olympics in Japan.
Canada won its first Olympic football gold medal by defeating Sweden 3-2 in a penalty shootout in the final on Friday.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw in the allotted 90 minutes and 30 minutes of extra time.
In the 34th minute of the match at the National Stadium, Stina Blacksteinius scored a goal to give Sweden the lead.
But in the 68th minute, Jessie Fleming equalized for Canada on a penalty.
After a 120-minute draw, Canada won the game in a thrilling shootout.
Canada’s Jesse Fleming, Ross Denny, and Julia Grosso scored from the penalty spot.
Sweden’s Nathalie Bjorn and Olivia scored.
