Eight secretary posts vacant, one promotion recommended

There are eight vacancies in various ministries, agencies, and states. The secretary has recommended the promotion of one person. 

On Tuesday, promotion to forest, agriculture and engineering services is being recommended.

The committee chaired by the chairperson of the Public Service Commission has recommended the promotion of senior joint secretary Damodar Regmi to the post of secretary. Regmi will become the secretary after the next cabinet meeting decides to promote him.

According to the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, there are currently eight vacancies, including five in the administration service, two in the engineering service and one in the forest and agriculture service.

The posts of Secretary in the Office of the President and the Office of the Vice President are vacant. There is also a vacancy in the office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the Ministry of Forest and Environment are also without secretaries.

Gandaki and Karnali state governments also have no chief secretary. The post of Chief Secretary has been vacant in Gandaki since March 15. After the retirement of Bishnu Prasad Nepal, Ram Chandra Dhakal has been working for him.

Another secretary has not been appointed since the then chief secretary of the Karnali state government Chandraman Shrestha retired on May 29. The post of secretary is also vacant in the National Reconstruction Authority.

Secretary at the Ministry of Defense Reshmiraj Pandey is retiring on July 1.

Meanwhile, the process of recommending the promotion of the secretary has started as soon as the officials of the Public Service Commission assume office on June 23.

It has been recommended to promote Damodar Regmi from joint secretary to secretary on the basis of seniority. “According to the Civil Service Act, we have recommended Regmi to be promoted on the basis of 20 per cent seniority,” said Public Service Commission Chairman Madhav Prasad Regmi. We have also collected the details of a vacant secretary of forest agriculture. Today we are collecting details for another post in the administration service.

Informing that he would recommend the promotion of Forest Agriculture Service and Engineering Service this evening, Regmi said, “We will fill the vacancies without a day’s delay.”

Ganesh Pandey, Madhusudan Burlakoti, Khagendra Nepal, Kiran Raj Sharma, and Ram Prasad Ghimire are among the joint secretaries who are currently close to promotion.
