Election Commission holding meeting with 17 parties today

The Election Commission (EC) has convened a meeting with representatives of political parties to update them on the local election preparations.

The EC will update the leaders of the political parties on the progress of the local election preparations at a meeting scheduled for 11:30 a.m. today.

The Election Commission will also consider ideas for the ballot paper from political parties. The main opposition CPN-UML had already expressed displeasure with the EC’s choice to keep the ballot paper and election emblem green while keeping the Swastik stamp blue.

KP Sharma Oli, the Chairperson of the CPN-UML, expressed his displeasure with the EC’s decision to print ballots in green. The ballot paper for the 2017 elections was printed in blue.

The EC has already stated that it reserves the authority to determine the ballot paper’s design and color.

Representatives from 17 political parties have been summoned for negotiations on this matter, according to EC Spokesperson Shaligram Sharma Paudel.

A total of 80 political parties have applied for registration to run in the local elections on May 13th.
