The Election Commission (EC) is scheduled to hold discussions with both the parties of the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) today.

The commission has summoned Chairman Upendra Yadav and another chairman Mahanta Thakur for a discussion at 11 am on Tuesday.

According to the provisions of the Political Parties Act, the two sides have been called for discussions to try to reach a consensus, said Raj Kumar Shrestha, spokesperson of the commission.

He said that both the parties have been called for discussion as per sub-section 4 of section 44 of the Political Parties Act.

Thakur will be accompanied by Laxman Lal Karna, Surendra Jha and Keshav Jha. Similarly, Yadav has decided to go to the commission along with Yadav, Federal Council Chairman Baburam Bhattarai, leader Rajendra Shrestha, Mahendra Ray Yadav and Prakash Adhikari.

Spokesperson Shrestha said that if both the parties participate in the discussion, the commission will take initiative for consensus and if there is no consensus, the decision-making process will start according to the demands of the parties.

There is a dispute over the official status between Upendra Yadav’s party and Mahanta Thakur’s party. Both sides decided to take action against each other and even applied to the Election Commission for an update. The commission had ruled that the action of both the parties was invalid.
