The Election Commission (EC) has begun planning for the local-level elections.

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba stated on Monday during a meeting with EC officials in Baluwatar that the government would set the date of the local elections after consulting with the ruling coalition and other political parties.

On May 14, 2017, the first round of local elections was held. The tenure of the elected body of the local bodies begins five days after the election, according to the provision. As a result, the elected representatives’ terms will expire on May 19, 2022.

According to Section 3 of the Local Level Election Act of 2073, elections must be held two months before the term expires. According to the law, local elections must be held by March 19, 2022.

In 2017, local government elections were held in three stages. The government is compelled to set a date based on May 14, 2017, when the first phase of local elections was held.
