Pesce’s girlfriend, Tammy Scher, confirmed his death to EW and described him as “bigger than life.” “He would go into a room and no one would forget him,” she added.

Pesce, a New York City native, began his career in show business in the late 1970s, with cameo appearances on the police dramas Police Story and Kojak. He went on to star in shows including Knight Rider, The Greatest American Hero, Miami Vice, Matlock, and Who’s the Boss? in the 1980s and 1990s.

Pesce had a successful cinema career as well. Pesce, a longstanding friend of Sylvester Stallone (as well as Tony Danza and Robert Forster, among other Hollywood heavyweights), starred in Stallone’s Rocky and Paradise Alley, which led to modest appearances in blockbusters such as Top Gun and Flashdance.

Beverly Hills Cop, Midnight Run, and 29th Street, a film based on his real-life, were among his other prominent credits. Pesce was played by Danny Aiello, and Pesce himself played his older brother, Vito. Pesce reconnected with Stallone in 2015 for a tiny role in Michael B. Jordan’s Rocky Balboa spin-off Creed.
