Nepali swimmer Gaurika Singh, who broke the national record at the Tokyo Olympics, said she was happy.
Gaurika, who competed in the first round at the Tokyo Abiotics Center, improved her record on the long course with a time of 1 minute 11 milliseconds.
“I am very happy to have set a national record,” said Gaurika in Lane 4 of Hits 1 after setting a 50-meter long course.
Despite a record improvement in Wednesday’s competition, Gaurika failed to reach the next stage.
She said that although she did not have a coach in Tokushima, she was happy to set a record by practicing a little on a long course.
Gaurika set a record of 1 minute 62 milliseconds in the 50m long course at the 18th FINA World Championships in 2019.
She broke that record at the Tokyo Olympics.
Gaurika has competed in the Olympics for the second time in a row.
She became the youngest athlete at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
