The government has stated that it will finalize the procurement of more than 10 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine within 10 days.

Speaking to journalists during a virtual press conference on Friday, Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, who is involved in the vaccine procurement process, stated that the procurement of five million vaccines from China and another five million from the United States would be completed within 10 days.

“The government is preparing to buy five million doses from China and the United States,” Minister Gyawali said, adding, “In addition, one million doses of vaccine provided by China will arrive in Kathmandu next week.”

He also stated that diplomatic efforts are underway to bring one million doses of AstraZeneca vaccines from the US government’s stockpile.

If all of these vaccines arrive, Nepal will receive 12 million doses of vaccines right away.

Foreign Minister Gyawali claimed that a “breakthrough” in vaccine procurement will occur within the next 10 days.
