Iraq defeated Nepal 2-6 in a friendly match last night at the Alfaya sports ground in Basra, Iraq.
Ala Abdul Zahra, Iraq’s captain, scored the game’s first goal from a free-kick in the seventh minute. Nepal applied pressure on Iraq and equalized in the eighth minute. Ahmed Ibrahim scored an own goal.
Nepal then seized the lead, with Manish Dangi scoring in his debut. Mohammad Abdul Zahra then equalized from a corner to make the score 2-2. Ayaman Hussein scored on a defensive miscue in the 40th minute and injury time of the first half to make the score 4-2 at the break. Alsamari scored the fifth goal for and Sajjad Jasim scored to give the hosts a 6-2 victory.
The national squad will now travel to Kuwait to compete in the FIFA World Cup qualifying games.
Nepal was grouped with Chinese Taipei, Jordan, and Australia. Nepal has had one win and four losses in the qualifying games so far.
