Italy has reached the semi-finals of Euro Cup 2020 by defeating world number one team Belgium.
Italy beat Belgium 2-1 in the second quarterfinal last night to make it to the last four.
Nicolo Barela and Lorenzo Insigne scored for Italy in Munich, Germany. Romelu Luku returned a goal for Belgium. Italy will now compete with Spain to reach the final.
Leonardo Bonucci of Italy scored in the 13th minute of the game. But VAR did not recognize the goal saying it was offside. But Italy did not have to wait long. In the 31st minute, Niccolo Barella scored from a Marco Verratti pass to give Italy the lead.
Lorenzo Insigni doubled Italy’s lead in the 44th minute. In the injury time of the first half, Belgium reduced the goal difference by scoring on a penalty. Belgium were awarded a penalty after Italy’s Giovanni Di Larenzo pushed Jeremy Dulay to fight. Romelu Lukaku scored easily.
Belgium tried to equalize in the second half but could not succeed. Regular captain Eden Hazard did not play against Italy due to injury. But Kevin de Bruyne played even though he was not 100 percent fit.
With the win over Belgium, Italy has extended its unbeaten run to 32 games. Italy have won five games in a row in this edition of the Eurocup, scoring 11 goals and conceding just two.
Prior to this game, Italy and Belgium had won the same 14 games including selection. After this defeat, Belgium’s winning journey has taken a break and Italy has reached the semifinals
