Announcing the decision of the cabinet meeting on Tuesday, government spokesperson Gyanendra Bahadur Karki said that the decision was taken to declare Jaya Prithvi Bahadur Singh a national hero in recognition of his contribution to the development of Nepal’s education sector and its recognition to the world.

Jai Prithvi Bahadur Singh is the king of Bajhangi. He published Gorkhapatra in 1958 BS. His book Aksharank Shiksha is considered to be the first textbook in Nepali language. He also wrote another book, Prakrit Grammar. He passed away on September 1, 1997.
