Kathmandu’s Garbage is to be collected on Tuesday

Garbage management in Kathmandu is to start on Tuesday after an agreement is reached between the government & the residents of the dumping area.

Kathmandu’s waste management is about to start after an agreement was reached between the Ministry of Urban Development and Kathmandu Metropolitan City and locals on Monday.

A meeting of stakeholders initiated by the Ministry of Urban Development on Monday agreed to pick up garbage. The garbage from Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Lalitpur Metropolitan City, and other municipalities has not been able to pick up since last 28 May. In the meeting held on Monday, Kakani village municipality of Nuwakot and Dhunibesi municipality of Dhading have agreed to dispose of garbage in the landfill site of Bancharedanda according to the appropriate method.

In the meeting, the Ministry of Urban Development expressed its commitment to start the acquisition process by evaluating the land on the basis of the environmental impact assessment report. It was also agreed to request the Ministry of Health to operate a 10-bed hospital in the affected area.

To start work within a week to provide health insurance to the permanent residents of wards 1, 3, and 4 of Dhunibesi Municipality and wards 1, 2, and 3 of Kakani without any duplication. Kathmandu Metropolitan City has committed to spraying chemicals.

The corporation has committed to take the garbage to the landfill site only after early July. Until then, the metropolis has also expressed its commitment to properly burying the garbage that has accumulated in the metropolis.

The metropolis has also committed to making arrangements for the classification of waste sources from July 17. The corporation has also agreed to start the post-closure process at the dumping site of Sisdol within six months based on the environmental impact assessment.
