Argentine soccer captain and superstar Lionel Messi has signed for French club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

Messi signed a two-year deal with French Ligue 1 club PSG on Tuesday. Just two days after the Spanish club left Barcelona, the French club signed 34-year-old Messi to Paris and signed him on a two-year contract.

Similarly, Messi has the option of staying in Paris for the third year. PSG has signed Messi as a free agent.

PSG has been signing star players last year with the ambition of winning the European Champions League. Messi had to leave his beloved club Barcelona just two days ago after La Liga’s financial rules were thwarted.

After signing the six-time Ballon d’Or award winner, PSG will now have an attacking line of Neymar and Killian Mbappe alongside Messi.

Earlier, PSG had signed Acharaf Hakimi from Inter, while Sergio Ramos, Giorgio Vijnaldum, and Gianluigi Donarumba were signed as free agents.

Messi, who arrived at PSG after spending more than two decades at Barcelona, said he was eager to start a career at the new club.

‘I am excited to start a new chapter in my career in Paris. “The dream of this club is in line with my ambitions,” Messi said after the deal.

Messi also said he was aware of the potential of PSG’s players and staff. “I’m committed to doing well at the club with them,” Messi said he was eager to get on the Park de Prince pitch.

PSG president Nasser al-Khelaifi said he was “delighted” to have Messi signed. “I am delighted that Leo Messi has chosen PSG and we are proud to welcome him to our family in Paris,” Nasser said.

Messi is going to wear the number 30 jersey in PSG.

Messi joined Barcelona in 2000 at the age of 13. He made his senior team debut in 2003 at La Masia’s Youth Academy. Messi has scored 672 goals in 778 appearances for Catalan clubs.

He is also a record scorer for Barcelona and La Liga. Messi, a six-time Ballon d’Or winner, has won a total of 35 titles at Barcelona, including 10 La Liga and four Champions Leagues.
