Local elections in Nepal: 4,000 polling centers being added

Local elections in Nepal: The Election Commission (EC) is working to expand the number of polling stations and centers.

This time, the Commission said 3,928 more voting places will be added.

There were 18,572 polling centers and 10,640 polling stations in the local elections of 2074. The EC is planning to expand the number of polling locations by 3,928 this time, bringing the total to 22,500. Similarly, there will be a total of 10,756 polling booths.

According to Chief Election Officer Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya, the EC decided to increase the number of voting places after the number of voters grew since the local level elections in 2074.

The total number of voters in the 2074 local elections was 14,054,000. This time, the number is expected to rise to 17,800,000 people. If the projections hold true, the number of registered voters will rise by roughly 3,800,000.

The polling stations were distributed in proportion to the number of voters, with 1,000 voters per polling center.

The EC is now reviewing the complaints filed against the voter list. On March 27, the final voter list will be released.
