July 9, Kathmandu. Minister for Urban Development Ram Kumari Jhankri has remarked that the resources of the state should be used for waste management.
Laying the foundation stone of Tukucha Khola’s wastewater treatment plant in Kathmandu on Thursday, Minister Jhankri said that investment in waste management has increased as the habit of dumping garbage from houses to chowk and river is becoming a habit.
Minister Jhankri said that it was necessary to move ahead only by addressing the social issues of Kathmandu’s garbage dumped Banchare Danda area. He said that a treatment center should be set up to solve the problem of garbage and sewage even if it is borrowed.
‘People living in the city are emitting garbage. We have come to know that the culture of dumping our garbage in the chowk by bringing dry garbage out of the river and dumping it in the river has increased. She said.
She said earlier, “We have mixed the sewage in the river. In order to treat it, we have to build a treatment plant by taking the same amount of loan.” It is not our fault, but it is our obligation. If we do not manage to raise money, we will pass on the burden of debt to the next generation. “
The Tukucha River flows through the center of Kathmandu. But due to uncontrolled urbanization, the river has become polluted and encroached. After the construction of the treatment plant, it is planned to treat the waste water and mix it in the Bagmati river.
It is planned to use the sludge released during the treatment to emit biogas from the treatment plant. The government is confident that 145,000 people will benefit from this project.
