COVID-19 variants in Nepal coined as ‘Delta’ and ‘Alpha’ by WHO

COVID-19 variants discovered in Nepal have been given the names ‘Delta’ and ‘Alpha’ by the World Health Organization (WHO).

The Indian variant found in Nepal is referred to as Delta, while the UK variant is referred to as Alpha.

Other variants found in other parts of the world have been given names by the WHO, such as Gama for the virus found in Brazil and Beta for the virus found in South Africa.

Similarly, the mutated virus discovered in India recently has been dubbed ‘Kappa.’

COVID-19 variants will be named using words from the Greek language, according to the organization.
