Nepali in Afghanistan: With the Taliban occupying Afghanistan, foreign countries are returning their citizens, Only 134 Nepali filled in the details to return home

While the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that around 2000 Nepalis are waiting for rescue to return to Nepal, only 134 Nepalis have recorded their details for repatriation.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 134 Nepalis have registered their details on the web portal of the Consular Services Department till Sunday evening. They are ready to be repatriated in a day or two.

The work of collecting details through the department’s website, mobile number, and Viber, WhatsApp has started. The ministry has also requested the concerned persons and family members to post the details on the available numbers and social media.

On the same day that the government formed a committee to coordinate the rescue of Nepalis in Afghanistan, the Nepali embassy in Delhi issued a notice urging Nepalis to prepare to return home.

In order to return to Nepal, the embassy has requested to contact concerned employers, concerned Nepali and Afghan manpower companies to contact for PCR tests and other necessary health check-ups and to book air tickets and fill in their details on the webpage of the Department of Consular Services.

Due to the recent developments in Afghanistan, the first meeting of the task force formed under the coordination of the Heads of Central Asia, West Asia, and Africa Division of the Ministry was held on 2078/4/32 to assess the situation of Nepalis in employment and carry out relief work with necessary coordination. The decisions made by the meeting are as follows:

  • To collect the details of Nepali nationals in Afghanistan for rescue purposes, to  register the details in the website of the Consular Services Department  https://nepalconsular.gov.np/ Online Registration Portal and mobile numbers including Viber and WhatsApp facility + 977-9749326458 (Consular Service) Department), + 977-9749326459 (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and +918929601925 (Nepalese Embassy, ​​New Delhi) to request the concerned persons and family members to record the details.
  • Nepalis working there will use social media to exchange information on security situation and rescue and request to make the information available in Nepal through the above number.
  • Necessary coordination will be made to facilitate the testing and quarantine of COVID-19 after the arrival of Nepalis in Nepal after the process of rescue begins.

Earlier, in a meeting attended by officials of various bodies of the Government of Nepal in the presence of Hon’ble Home Minister Shri Bal Krishna Khanju, the Hon’ble Minister has given necessary instructions regarding the rescue of Nepalis in Afghanistan.

The process of safe repatriation of Nepalis from Kabul has started gradually since yesterday. For that, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is taking diplomatic initiative from all sides. The gradual arrival of Nepalis in Afghanistan is starting in 1-2 days. 

The Ministry of Consular Services and the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi are in regular contact with the Nepali citizens and their employers through previously announced telephone numbers, online portals, Viber, WhatsApp, and email.

As many as 134 Nepalis have registered their details in the web portal of the above-mentioned Consular Services Department till 6 pm yesterday.
