One person has died and another is missing in a boat accident on the Mahakali River.

The deceased has been identified as Meena Saud, 13, of Shivanath Village Municipality-1. Similarly, eight-year-old Sandeep Saud of Shivanath-1 has gone missing, said Police Spokesperson Inspector Darshan Khadka.

A boat carrying 10 people met with an accident at Shivanath-1 Khandghat on the Mahakali River on Wednesday evening. Meena and Sandeep went missing in the accident. Meena’s body was found on the bank of Mahakali River at 7.30 this morning, according to police. The search for the missing Sandeep is underway. Nepal Police and Armed Police Force have been mobilized for the search.

The other eight people aboard the boat are safe, according to the District Police Office. Shivnath and Pancheshwor villages of the district are connected to India and when there is no bridge to go to India, they go to the Mahakali river by boat. The cause of the accident could not be ascertained and the incident is being investigated.
