July 7, Kathmandu. Opposition parties in India have declared Trinamool Congress Vice President Yashwant Sinha as their presidential candidate.

Sinha’s name was agreed upon after Sharad Pawar refused to run for the presidency. A meeting of 17 opposition parties in Delhi on Tuesday agreed on Sinha’s name, said Congress leader Jairam Ramesh. Sinha was the finance and foreign minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government.

A meeting of the opposition parties on June 15 decided to field Pawar as presidential candidate. After he refused to run for office, former governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi and National Conference president Farooq Abdullah were named. He also refused to run.
