In the final, none could close the gap absolutely, Schauffele and Cantlay posting an even-par 72 to win by 2 shots. Yes, the lead did get trimmed to one stroke on the back 9, runners-up Billy Horschel and Sam Burns going 5 under on their first 11 holes. But a birdie from Team Schuaflay on the 11th hole and a bogey from Horschel/Burns on the 17th gave the winning side much breathing room on the 18th hole as they closed out a wire-to-wire winning with a bogey.

With the victory, Cantlay asserted his 7th tour title, the last summer’s Tour Championship. It was the 5th Schaffele, but his 1st since the 2019 Sentry Tournament of Champions. The overall pursuit for this week is $8.3 million, and the prize money payout works likewise to other PGA Tour events. For the 1st place team, you add the money an individual champion would make ($1.494 million) to the money the 2nd-place finisher would get ($904,700), then divide by 2 to get the amount that each player on the triumphing team gets ($1.119 million).

As we mentioned a year ago, what is interesting about this is that the distribution of money in the event skews more toward the top of the leader board than a constant individual event. Here is how much money a particular complete would get you if it was an individual event with an $8.3 million purse versus how much a team finish gets.
