Postmortem report that Suvina Giri was strangled to death, husband and nephew arrested

July 9, Rupendehi. Police have arrested two persons on the charge of being involved in the incident of Subina Giri, 25, who was found dead in Tilotta Municipality-6 on June 12.

Naru Giri, a resident of Kawasoti Municipality-16 of Nawalparasi, was arrested by the police on Thursday after she lodged a FIR against Sanjay, 38, and her nephew Kushal Giri, 21, of Kanchan village.

Suvina’s parents had lodged a complaint after the autopsy report revealed that she had died by strangulation instead of hanging. According to Butwal Area Police Office Chief Thaga Bahadur KC, Sanjay and Kushal were arrested on the basis of the same complaint.

“The autopsy report said that the death was not due to hanging but due to ‘good pressure’ so the incident is suspicious.

Suvina’s husband Sanjay found Suvina hanging in the room of Milan Family Restaurant at Tilottama-6, West Pahuni on June 13 at 1 pm and informed her relatives after taking her to Crimson Hospital. When Suvina was rushed to the hospital, doctors said she had already died.

Suvina’s father Naru Giri urged the court to proceed with the investigation as per the autopsy report. “The autopsy report has revealed that he was hanged after being strangled to death. The culprit should be punished immediately,” he said.

Earlier, Suvina’s father Naru had lodged a complaint at the Area Police Office, Butwal on June 13 seeking investigation into the incident.

According to the police, the incident was mysterious as the statement of Sanjay, husband of Suvina, who was hanging in front of her in the middle of the night and claimed to have brought her to the hospital, was not found. Sanjay’s statement was that Suvina was suddenly hanged in a room of the same hotel after a fight on the night of June 12.

The autopsy report, which came at a time when there was a suspicion whether he was hanged or not, has confirmed that he was not hanged. “There is no basis to say that the hand was pressed on the neck and the head was also injured,” said Dr. Ahana Shrestha.

Maiti had demanded an in-depth investigation from the beginning as there was no one to see her hanging and her husband’s behavior was suspicious. The mother-in-law claims that there was a fight in the house from morning till noon on the day she was hanged.

Suvinaki’s aunt Chhama Giri said that the role of her husband (Sanjay) and family and relatives was questionable from the very beginning. Subina’s uncle Nimu Giri said that the police had requested for an impartial investigation as there was a suspicion that her husband had killed her with the help of her family and relatives.

He said that he had come to the conclusion that it was not suicide at the beginning as the injuries on his body, disheveled hair, nail bruises and blue bruises were clearly visible in different places. After Suvina’s death, the parents also demanded to arrange movable and immovable property for the protection, care and future security of the two minor children.
