On the advice of the cabinet, President Bidya Devi Bhandari released seven ordinances on Tuesday.
The ordinances were promulgated in compliance with Article 114 (1) of the constitution.
According to a notification provided by the President’s Office, ordinances amending certain statutes relating to sexual assault, the Constitutional Council, drug offenses, and criminal procedure have been issued.
Last December, the government introduced an ordinance relating to the Constitutional Council and, on the basis of it, assigned officials to numerous constitutional commissions, including the Committee for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority, the Election Commission, and the National Human Rights Commission.
The government’s decision in December drew condemnation from a number of politicians, civil society groups, and international human rights organizations.
