Rajbiraj’s dormitory has been deserted for 17 years

July 8, Saptari. The building of Kanya Hostel, which was started with the help of Indian Embassy in Rajbiraj of Saptari, has not been completed even after more than a decade and a half. Construction of the building has been halted after reaching the final stage.

The construction of the hostel was started in 2062 BS with the support of the Indian Embassy targeting female students studying at the Mahendra Bindeshwari Multipurpose Campus in Rajbiraj. Stakeholders have discussed about this on Wednesday after the construction of the 55-room dormitory building, which was supposed to be completed in 2064 BS, was stopped for a decade and a half.

Participants of the discussion said that it was unfortunate that the work was stopped in the final stage of construction and even the Indian embassy did not pay attention to it.

The embassy itself had appointed Shekhar Singh, the coordinator of the construction committee, to provide financial assistance. Singh is currently a member of the National Assembly. The embassy had sent a budget of Rs 196 million to the then District Development Committee for the construction.

The construction committee has stated that more has been spent than the stipulated budget. The committee has stated that there is an arrear of Rs. 3.4 million as the windows and doors of the building are yet to be added and painted.

In the meeting chaired by CA member Ranjit Karna, leaders of various political parties including another CA member Ranju Thakur, Maviv Campus chief Rajib Mishra and former chief Sarvesh Chandra Mishra have expressed their commitment to take initiative from their respective places to bring the building into operation.
