Rangers are allowing Kyle McClelland to leave Ibrox this summer – and West Ham United have now joined the race for his signature.

Rangers are seeing Alex Lowry becoming a real first-team star, but not every young talent can take that path.

For every Lowry or even Billy Gilmour who made a quick move to the Premier League, there are the likes of Dapo Mebude and Malcolm Ebiowei who have had to move on.

In the case of defender McClelland, it looks like his time at Rangers is coming to an end with an upcoming summer transfer.

Rangers allow Kyle McClelland to leave Ibrox

Reports from the Scottish Daily Express last week suggest Rangers are ready to let McClelland go.

Rangers rate McClelland highly but are willing to let him go on a free transfer if sell clauses are included.

McClelland failed to break into the Rangers first-team and is behind Leon King in the pecking order.

The 20-year-old Northern Ireland youth international is unlikely to earn a first-team spot at Ibrox any time soon.

McClelland, who was on loan at Falkirk, could have plenty of interest now.

Huddersfield Town, Cardiff City and Sheffield United are all said to be interested in McClelland.

West Ham show interest in McClelland signing

The interest is even higher up the English football pyramid as West Ham United are now very interested.

The Daily Record claim that West Ham have joined the race to sign McClelland.

It is believed that McClelland has actually turned down a new contract at Rangers and is looking to land a move elsewhere.

West Ham signed a former Rangers player last summer by landing goalkeeper Brian Kinnear.

Scotland boss David Moyes could now try to repeat the trick by bringing McClelland to the London Stadium this summer while West Ham go after a developmental defender.
