Real Sociedad has risen to the top of the Spanish La Liga.
Real Sociedad, limited to 10 players, beat Mallorca 1-0 at home on Saturday night.
Julen Lobete scored the decisive goal late in the game in Sociedad’s victory. Lobet scored in the 90th minute through a pass from Martin Zubimendi.
Although Sociedad was reduced to 10 men in the first half, Mallorca could not take advantage of that. Sociedad was limited to 10 players after Sociedad’s Aihen Munoz was shown a double yellow (red) card during the injury time of the first half.
Sociedad has 20 points from nine games. Real Madrid, who have played one game less, and defending champions Atletico Madrid are second and third, respectively, with the same 17 points. Mallorca, who lost to Sociedad, is 12th with 11 points.
In another match on Saturday night, Levante and Getafe shared the points in a goalless draw.
