At least 46 people have lost their lives in road accidents in Nawalparasi district in a year.
In the last fiscal year 2077/78, 132 people lost their lives in road accidents.
The highest death toll was 40 men, four women, and two children, according to the District Traffic Police Office, East Nawalparasi.
There are 135 people seriously injured in the accident. There are 100 seriously injured men, 20 women, eight boys, and seven girls.
Similarly, the number of minor injuries is 85, according to the District Traffic Police Office.
Padam Badu, information officer at the District Traffic Police Office, said that 86 motorcycles were involved in accidents last year.
After that, 26 jeeps / cars, 23 trucks / tankers, 23 tractors, 13 buses, 10 tempos, eight small vehicles, five tippers, five microbuses and one other were involved in 190 road accidents in the district last year, said Badu.
Motorcycles are the most common cause of accidents. Most of the victims are men, but most of them are young people.
One of the main causes of accidents is the negligence of the driver.
He said that the youths were found to be speeding, using mobile phones while driving and overtaking motorcycles in such places.
There have been several accidents on the Nawalpur section of the East-West Highway due to dilapidated roads.
The four-lane road is being widened.
In this process, large potholes have appeared in many places due to the non-maintenance of roads for a long time.
This has also increased the number of accidents.
Meanwhile, the District Traffic Police Office, East Nawalparasi has collected revenue of Rs. 1,11,54,500
According to Badu, Information Officer at the District Traffic Police Office, the revenue was collected from 18,145 vehicles.
