New Zealand has reached the semifinals of the T20 World Cup with an easy eight-wicket win over Afghanistan. India is out with one game left.
New Zealand reached the target of 125 runs set by Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi by losing 2 wickets in 18.1 overs. Kane Williamson added 40, Devon Conway 36, Martin Guptill 28, and Daryl Mitchell 17 for New Zealand.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, Afghanistan lost 8 wickets in 20 overs and scored 124 runs. His start was bad. Openers Mohammad Shahzad (2) and Hazratullah Jajai (4) were out for just four runs. For the third wicket, Rahmanullah Gurbaji was dismissed for 6 while Afghanistan’s score was only 19 runs.
Najibullah Zadran, who came to bat at number five, played an aggressive inning. He shared 37 runs with Gulabuddin Nabi for the fourth wicket and 59 runs with Mohammad Nabi for the fifth wicket. Gulbadin Naib was out for 15 and Mohammad Nabi for 14. T20 World Cup:
Zadran, who was dismissed for the sixth wicket, scored 73 runs. Facing 48 balls, he hit 6 fours and 3 sixes.
New Zealand’s Trent Bolt took 3 for 17 in 4 overs and Tim Southee took 2 for 24 in 4 overs. Adam Milne, James Neesham, and Ish Sodhi took one wicket each.
