Taxpayers afflicted by the COVID-19 pandemic will receive special tax breaks from Kathmandu Metropolitan City.

During the introduction of the KMC’s Policies and Programs for the approaching fiscal year 2021/22, the KMC announced that special tax savings would be made available to taxpayers affected by the COVID-19 epidemic.

“The landlord, upon presenting the data and agreement of the persons residing at their residence in rent at the ward office, would be offered a discount of 10% of the rent amount or Rs. 25,000, whichever is less,” according to the policy and program. The private sector will be enlisted in the effort as well.”

“Service recipients who pay taxes, service charges, and fines using a banking or electronic system will receive discounts. The policy and program notes, “COVID-19 impacted taxpayers will additionally receive a discount through the Public-Private Partnership program.”
The KMC has adopted a strategy of providing large tax breaks to businesses affected by COVID-19 (hotel and tourism).

The strategy and program further stated that the information of persons residing in the KMC area on a temporary basis would be retained with the cooperation of the relevant agencies in order to ensure optimal urban service distribution.
