Marvin McClendon: Who Is He?
In 1988, Marvin McClendon, a 74-year-old Alabama man, was arrested in Lawrence for the murder of Melissa Tremblay, an 11-year-old girl.
He is a retired Massachusetts Department of Corrections employee, though he is unsure whether he worked for the state in 1988. McClendon lived in Chelmsford and had a number of ties to Lawrence. He worked in the city and went to the Salem Street Seventh-Day Adventist Church, among other places.
McClendon may or may not have known Melissa or her family, according to the Essex District Attorney. Investigators have no cause to believe the suspect was involved in any other crimes, according to him.
He was apprehended in Alabama Tuesday night and charged as a fugitive of justice, according to Essex District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett, who appeared at a news conference Wednesday morning.
Marvin McClendon was arrested for Melissa Tremblay on Facebook. Murder in 1998
Marvin McClendon was arrested in Lawrence 35 years ago in connection with the death of Melissa Tremblay, an 11-year-old girl.
Tremblay, a native of New Hampshire who lived in Salem, was murdered while visiting a Lawrence social club with her mother and her mother’s boyfriend. She left the bar to perform in the neighbouring areas, and she was found stabbed to death in a freight yard off Andover Street on September 12, 1988. The case has remained unsolved for more than 33 years.
Blodgett said investigators were directed to McClendon by evidence found on the girl’s body, but he wouldn’t go into detail, saying more information would be revealed at the arraignment. According to the D.A., McClendon has been a person of interest in the investigation “for some time.”
He’s been charged with being a wanted criminal and is due in court in Alabama on Thursday. He will be extradited to Massachusetts and charged with murder if he rejects rendition.
Marvin McClendon’s Family: Who Are They?
Marvin McClendon and his wife, according to public records, live in Bremen, Alabama. The rest of his family, including his parents and children, is not addressed in the media.
Other information about his life, such as when he left the Massachusetts Department of Corrections and how long he resided in Alabama, was not immediately available. At this time, the district attorney is unable to say if McClendon knew the victim or his family.
“We’re not going to stop; we’ll follow every single clue,” Blodgett said. He emphasised that his team is committed to providing justice to the people, regardless of the length of time it takes.
We will do everything we can to deliver some comfort and justice to the families who have lost loved ones to murder, whether it takes 30 years or 60.”
The Essex District Attorney argued that he had little knowledge of McClendon’s life in Alabama. He claims to have previously worked in Bremen.
